 Green Business Practices: ONE Group Announces More Sustainability Achievements!
In the last E-NEWS, I announced that the company has been CARBON-NEUTRAL since August 1, 2006!!
What does this mean for our environment?
ONE Group® has implemented wind power generation for their certified organic manufacturing facility. They are also partnering with the Climate Neutral Group to invest in renewable energy projects. In addition, and just as exciting, was the decision to partner with a non-profit organization that plants native trees. This goes beyond off-setting carbon output by absorbing carbon emissions; planting native trees helps replenish the soil, improve salinity and water quality, absorb carbon dioxide, adds oxygen to the air and creates natural habitats for wildlife. Did you know the 'peanuts' used to pack products are biodegradable? They are made from leftover wheat crops and may be used in composting, simply 'washed' down the drain (watch them melt!) or reused. STUDY FINDS THAT ORGANIC & SUSTAINABLE FARMING INCREASES YIELDS BY 79% OR MORE
A new study published in the journal Environmental Science and Technology indicates that low-income farmers in developing nations who adopt sustainable organic farming practices increase crop yields by an average of 79%. In addition, the healthier soil allows the crops to better withstand drought. Sustainable farmers save additional money by using less water, eliminating pesticides and chemical fertilizers, and by avoiding high-priced genetically engineered seeds. The study adds to the ever-growing body of scientific evidence that sustainable farming practices are key to feeding and preserving decent livelihoods for the 40% of the world's population who are still farmers or rural villagers.

What country has the most organic farms?
Mexico! This country has over 120,000 organic farms for a total of almost 300,000 hectares of land.
Which small European nation has the highest percentage of farmland in use by organic farmers?
Liechtenstein! With over 26% of agricultural area under organic standards, which comes to approx. 984 hectares. On the other hand, Australia has over 12 million hectares in use, the highest of any nation. This translates to about 2.7% of total farmland under organic management in that country.
Do you know which country has the highest number of organic farms and land used for organic farming?
Italy! The Italians have some 36,640 organic farms, which translates into over 950,000 hectares and 6.22% of agricultural land under organic management.
