Atoms in Agriculture by Dr. Americo Mosca, chemist and prizewinner at Brussel's World Fair.
Published in 1974, Dr. Mosca argues that toxic genetic chemicals used in agriculture are more dangerous than atomic fallout at the cellular level -- the only difference is time. He stated, "I calculate that in the U.S. the use of toxic genetic chemicals (herbicides, insecticides, hormones, steroids, etc.) causes damage equal to the atomic fallout from 145 H-bombs of 14 megatons each, or in terms of atomic bombs -- from 72,500 atomic bombs of the Hiroshima type. For this reason, disease of all kinds and the birth of mentally retarded babies have increased tremendously in the United States in the last 10 years. The damage to plants, crops, soil fertility and water pollution are practically incalculable. If use of these toxic genetic chemicals persists in agriculture and on food, this will cause the destruction of the American people."
Thousands of chemicals are introduced every year without adequate government oversight or testing. On a positive note, the growth of organic farming and the industry has grown since Dr. Mosca's book was published. Current rates approach or exceed 20% or more each year in Oceania, Europe and the US, with 2002 retail sales reaching close to US $30 billion dollars worldwide. "Organic farming methods may involve more labor and time but the processes are far less damaging to the world's eco-system and the human race," states the authors of Organic and Natural Living Magazine (2003).
The Cure for All Diseases, The Cure for Cancer, The Cure for All Advanced Cancers, The Cure for HIV/AIDS, The Prevention of All Cancers (2004) and other books by Hulda Regehr Clark, Ph.D., N.D.
Dr. Clark has been at the forefront of research about the causes of disease. She has published many self-help books in the field of holistic healing, offering people a real solution to many issues. Trained in the sciences, she discovered the basis for disease
and has helped hundreds of people (probably thousands by now) either cure themselves or help them regain health at her clinic in Mexico. Even for those not yet 'sick', these books are a MUST READ for prevention. They contain information on herbal remedies and the latest scientific tools
for prevention and treatment of many problems. The Clean-Ups are also vital to success, including eliminating toxins and heavy metals from as many sources as possible as well as from our bodies! The Dr. Clark Research Association, which is in no way affiliated with Dr. Clark or the Dr. Clark Information Center,
provides access to pure supplements, equipment, books and other products. Proceeds go to support research of the Dr. Clark protocol and to develop even more efficient and effective tools for everyone's access to better health.
Deadly Feasts: The "Prion" Controversy and the Public's Health by Richard Rhodes.
This 1997 book provides an intense and shocking trace through time and research of the origin and variants of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies. Rhodes has traveled the world to interview scientists, government officials and others in the pursuit of revealing the current knowledge of these diseases, popularly known as 'mad cow disease' in cows and variant Creuztfeldt-Jakob disease in people. This book offers a portrait of these fatal diseases, including the research and controversial theories, government efforts, or lack thereof, to protect the public and implications for our future.
It is clear that the main cause of transmittal could be greatly reduced by society turning to organic farming and agriculture, where animals are raised in their natural way and not fed other animals. This book is highly recommended.

Genetically Engineered Foods -- Are They Safe? You Decide by Laura and Robin Ticciati, Ph.D. (www.safe-food.org)
A short and concise backgrounder on artificially-altered foods and other products, including some supplements, cosmetics and personal care products. GE ingredients are now used in 60-70% of food and other consumer products found on grocery store shelves. There are currently no regulations for labeling in the U.S. The authors founded Mothers for Natural Law and maintain a comprehensive website that has a good list of other resources, including Genetically Engineered Food: A Self-Defense Guide for Consumers by Ronnie Cummins and Ben Lilliston, published in 2000. Buying organic and non-GMO products shows support for a more natural and safer food supply.
Silent Spring by Rachel Carson
Published in 1962, this book was a compelling warning that challenged many agricultural scientists and the U.S. government. It exposed the hazards of the pesticide DDD and questioned technological processes that harmed the environment and all living creatures. Carson brought the discovery of bio-magnification of pesticide use to the forefront - that a very small amount of a chemical used to lower a gnat population would soon kill many birds and show up in large quantities in those who prey on them and other wildlife or plants affected by the toxin.
Accordingly, when we introduce synthetic chemicals into our environment and on or in what we use everyday, bio-magnification, bio-accumulation and bio-concentration occurs. It may take years for us to "discover" what really happens. This is not a scientific approach but science using society for profit and experimentation. Given the recent introduction of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) or Genetic Engineering (GE) into the agricultural supply chain, Carson's book is just as relevant today as when it was written in 1962.
